"Commissioner of African Union visited NIGEB"

H.E Madame Sarah Mbi Enow Anyang the commissioner of African Union Resources, Science and Technology, and representative of Pan-African University visited NIGEB and had a joint meeting with the authorities on 10 March 2019.


At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. Sanati, Deputy for Research of NIGEB while greeting, he expressed his interest in scientific cooperation between NIGEB and African Union.

Dr. Mousavi, NIGEB director of the scientific and international relations office, then introduced briefly the three institutes and their activities and achievements, including the recent success in genome editing project in producing hemophilia model mouse. He also mentioned the cooperation with South Africa as a successful model of scientific relations with Africa, and hoped to have the same experience with other countries of African Union. Iran and some other African countries are ICGEB members at the present which could be a very good opportunity to get its supports in organizing joint programs, giving fellowships and findings, he declared.

 

H.E. Agbor also expressed her satisfaction for further cooperation and she pointed out that there are two institutes at Pan-African University whose field of activities are in the line with NIGEB. Then she added that could be more fruitful if the successful research achievements in Iran should be implemented in Africa more practically, especially in common challenges such as drought, salinity of soil, and human infectious diseases. She declared the African Union tendency in staff and student exchanges for training courses and using the NIGEB’s facilities.
